Should Mail Be Placed on Hold During Fumigation?
You do not always need to stop mail delivery during fumigation. However, you should place your mail on hold if the mailbox will be inside the fumigation enclosure or the mail carrier will be unable to safely access it.
How to Place USPS Mail on Hold
USPS Hold Mail service temporarily pauses all USPS mail delivery to your address, including letters and USPS packages. The service is free and is available for a minimum of three days and a maximum of 30 days.
You can request a mail hold:
- Online through the USPS Hold Mail website
- In person at your local post office
- By completing USPS Form 8076
- By calling 1-800-ASK-USPS
At the end of the hold, you can arrange for the accumulated mail to be delivered or pick it up at your local post office.
What About UPS, FedEx, and Amazon Packages?
A USPS mail hold does not apply to deliveries made by UPS, FedEx, Amazon, or other private delivery services.
Review any deliveries expected during the fumigation and reschedule them when possible. Delivery drivers must not enter the fumigation area, and the fumigation crew cannot be responsible for accepting or protecting packages.
When Is a Mail Hold Unnecessary?
A hold may not be necessary if your mailbox is outside the fumigation enclosure and remains safely accessible to the mail carrier. If you are uncertain, ask Tiger Termite before the fumigation begins.
Planning ahead helps prevent missed deliveries and keeps mail carriers and delivery drivers away from restricted areas.
